The Islamic Curriculum Initiative (ICI) began in November 2023, shaped by a global network of educators from 11 countries who came together out of shared concern and deep conviction. In the face of rising injustice, distorted narratives, and the ongoing erasure of truth—particularly around Palestine—we recognized a need for an educational response rooted in the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the enduring wisdom of our tradition.
We are a growing collective, not a finished product. We don’t claim to have all the answers—but we know that silence, neutrality, and business-as-usual in education are no longer options. The events following October 7 made that painfully clear. What we see today is not new: it is the continuation of a colonial legacy, now repackaged in modern forms, and it demands a clear, principled response from educators.
ICI was created to support that response.
Our work began with Palestine. We develop and offer free lesson plans, activities, and resources designed to help educators teach with clarity, accuracy, and moral courage. We uphold amr bil maʿrūf (enjoining good) and nahy ʿan al-munkar (forbidding wrong), not as abstract principles, but as lived educational responsibilities. And we aim to nurture young Muslims who are spiritually rooted, intellectually engaged, and unafraid to ask difficult questions.
But we cannot do this alone.
This initiative is a work in progress—built collaboratively, refined by feedback, and shaped by the diverse wisdom of educators like you. Our approach draws inspiration from Hadith Jibril, where the Prophet Muhammad (saw) was taught not just with information, but with depth, presence, and purpose. In the same way, we hope to support a new generation of teaching that fosters not only knowledge, but also Islam, Iman, and Ihsan.
ICI is not about decorating secular frameworks with Islamic verses. It is about building from within: developing curriculum that reflects who we are and what we believe—together.
If you are a teacher, curriculum writer, translator, reviewer, or simply someone who cares about what and how we teach—there is space for you here. Your ideas, experience, and presence matter. This is a shared trust.
Let’s build together.
May Allah (swt) grant us sincerity, clarity, and steadfastness on this path.
Tawfeeq billah,
The ICI Team
