Food as a Means of Sustenance, Resilience and Resistance

Within this section, students will explore the importance of the olive tree, recognizing its cultural heritage and economic impact, as well as the concept of sumud (resilience). They will also be introduced to the creation of Israel and gain insight into the challenges faced by Palestinians through a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation. (A more comprehensive version of the lesson in grades 4-6)

They will also explore the concepts of food security and forced famine through a case study of Sultan Abdul Majeed’s aid to Ireland – an analysis of the prospects and an understanding of the responsibilities of a just ruler.
